Season 141 Playoff Update

I thought I would take a look at the D1-AA playoff picture after 11 games.  This will not take any of the halftime results on Thursday into account.  Last year I looked conference by conference.  This season I thought I would break the teams out based on power level.  Anyway, on to the real discussion.

Championship Contenders - I think the winner will come out of these teams.  Their seasons have been nothing but impressive s ofar

  • Marist
  • Northern Iowa
  • Arkansas PB
  • Stephen F Austin
  • St Mary's
  • Maine

Outside Shot - These are teams that could make a run and will prove a difficult match-up to any of the teams above.

  • Valparaiso
  • Delaware State
  • Samford
  • Central Connecticut
  • Western Carolina
  • Drake
  • Villanova
  • Texas State
Make Some Waves - This is a collection of teams that should be safely in the post-season.  These teams are hoping to win their first game and maybe pull an upset in the second round.  There are some familiar names as well as a few new rising programs.

  • Grambling State
  • Georgia Southern
  • Morgan State
  • Charleston Southern
  • Bucknell
  • Youngstown State
  • Florida International
  • Texas Southern
  • Harvard

  • Florida Atlantic
Can We Make It? - At last we make it to the teams fighting to make their post-season dreams come true.  In my mind there are two types of teams in this category; teams that fight for a playoff positions every year and teams that will be making major progress by making the playoffs.  I'll have a little more discussion on each below

  • Playoff Veterans
    • Cal Poly
    • Jacksonville
    • Norfolk State
    • Cornell
    • Alabama A&M
    • Jacksonville State

  • This Will Make Our Season
    • Liberty - Looking for their first playoffs since season 131
    • Albany - Looking to finish the turn around from one of the worst rosters 
    • Yale - Missed the playoffs the last two years
    • Mississippi Valley State - has averaged a 38 WIS ranking the last 7 years with no appearanced
    • Cal State - SIMAI
    • Austin Peay - SIMAI

Season 140 Playoff Update

Here's looking at the playoffs with one regular season game left. I'm going to update Villanova, Harvard, Norfolk State, and Valparaiso to Should Be In barring anything crazy going on.  That accounts for 24 of the 32 available spots. The eight remaining spots look to be filled out by someone from below: Texas Southern and Grambling State play tomorrow, both seem to be in but one can never tell.  James Madison plays sim William & Mary, but the squad is mostly human recruited and is key if James Madison wants to make the playoffs. The following teams look to be heading to the conference championship, but will a loss in the CC actually hurt them? Morgan State Stony Brook Charleston Southern Nichols State Mississippi Valley State The following teams now all need some help. Pennsylvania Yale Princeton Duquense Liberty
